Design is playing an increasingly important role in today's world, where the transition from an industrial society to a knowledge society is progressing.In the Faculty of Environmental Science and Design, students learn design from a variety of fields across disciplines, cultivating flexible thinking and expression that are not bound by existing concepts, and the ability to collaborate with others.In a complex and changing society, we develop human resources who can design their own living environment, identify problems from a broad perspective, and propose and act toward solutions.

Researching various "types" and designing new "types"

In my laboratory, we are researching "package development diagrams", "board games", "products made with children", and "three-dimensional cookie cutters".At first glance, it may look disparate, but what leads to the background is the "technology used when the product is manufactured."Since it is essential to make a lot of the same product, some kind of "form" is necessary.Some of the "molds" are for printing the same thing like stamps, and others are for cutting paper into the same shape.Using these "types", even technically inexperienced people can make the same thing.These “types” can be said to be a collection of wisdom.While rediscovering the wisdom and technology cultivated so far, we will recreate a "form" that can be expanded more widely.I am conducting practical research and designing such things with my students.

PROFILE
Born in Tokyo.He graduated from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University.Since he was in school, he studied under Asao Tokoro, an artist.After he graduated he went independent and established Samsung Design.He works in the fields of graphics and products. From 2020, he has been appointed as a specially appointed lecturer in the Department of Environmental Science and Design.He supervised the package design of the original mineral water "Yume Mirumizu", supervised the website design of the Department of Environmental Science and Design, named "cafe3", and designed the logo.He has received numerous awards, including the Kids Design Award and the Good Design Award.
