Online Japanese Language Program
Showa Women's University (SWU) has a reputation for offering a excellent communication-based Japanese language program for non-degree study abroad students. With much experience in offering the semester program online during the Covid-19 outbreak, SWU
launched a new short-term ONLINE language program for those who want to enhance their Japanese proficiency without traveling to Japan. This program also helps those planning to study abroad in Japan to get ready for their academic life before an actual study
abroad.
PROGRAM OUTLINE
- 1-month program, with 120-minute class per day, 3 days a week. (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
- This program is designed for CEFR A2~ beginner B1 level students who have obtained JLPT N4 or are close to doing so.
- Official transcripts with 1 SWU credit (=1.5 ECTS) will be awarded to those who complete the program.
- Those who have achieved close to the JLPT N3 upon completion of this program and are interested in an actual semester study abroad is eligible for SWU“Intensive Japanese Language Program.” Student must submit a separate application to be considered for the program by the designated applicaiton deadline.
SCHEDULE and DETAILS
BASIC JAPANESE ONLINE PROGRAM IPeriod: July 7 - August 6, 2025
*The class meets on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Class Dates: July 7, 9, 10, 14, 16, 17, 23, 24, 28, 30 / August 4, 6
Orientation : Beginning of June (TBA) and June 30
*Participating in both orientations is required.
Class Time: 4~6 PM (Japan Standard Time)
Study Hours: 12 class sessions (120 minutes per session)
Credit: 1 SWU Credit (=1.5 ECTS)
Fee: 40,000 JPY
Students from SWU partner universities will receive special benefits below.
a) Using a student exchange quota: 100% program fee waiver.
b) Not using a student exchange quota: 50% program fee discount.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in a higher education institution outside of Japan.
- Must have completed introductory-level Japanese.

OTHER FEATURES
- Online classes will be conducted via Zoom.
- Google Classroom will be used for class announcements and assignments.
- Small class size: 6-10 students per class.
- There will be SWU supporting students joining the class, offering a chance to interact and communicate in Japanese with Japanese college students.
- Official transcript and certificate of completion are available upon completion of the program.

FEE PAYMENT and CANCELLATION POLICY
- The minimum number of participants needed to open the program is 6 students. Applicants will be notify if the program cannot be offered.
- The tuition invoice will be sent to students by the end of May. The payment deadline is June 15th.
- Students will be asked to make the payment via "Flywire" .
